Larnaca and the Lefkara Hills
Larnaca is not the first district that comes to mind for Cypriot wine, and it has by far the fewest producers. What it does have is a small group of boutique wineries in the hills around Lefkara, working at moderate altitude with a strong lean toward indigenous varieties.
The Lefkara area
Pano Lefkara and the surrounding villages — Kato Drys, Skarinou, Vavla, Odou — sit in the eastern foothills of the Troodos, at lower elevations than Pitsilia but high enough to escape coastal heat.
Lefkara itself is best known for lacework and silver rather than wine, and is a well-established day-trip destination, which makes combining a village visit with a winery straightforward.
Small and getting smaller-scale
The producers here are genuinely small; several are recent foundations making limited quantities, and at least one sells primarily through its own channels rather than retail.
Organic and minimal-intervention approaches are notably well represented relative to the size of the district.
Why it is worth the trip
Precisely because so few wine visitors come. Where Omodos in August can feel crowded, these wineries rarely are, and the attention you get from a producer working at this scale is a different experience.
The district is also convenient from Larnaca airport and the eastern resorts, making it the most accessible wine region for visitors staying on that side of the island.
